It was a rather tearful Tuesday night on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" when the latest dance duo was eliminated from the competition.
The last two couples left waiting to find out whose Monday night rock performance wasn't rock star enough to continue on the show were Sherri Shepherd and Val Chmerkovskiy and Disney star Roshon Fegan and his professional partner Chelsie Hightower. Fegan's landing in the bottom two was particularly shocking considering that he was among the highest scorers the night before. The judges loved his Viennese waltz and said it was like watching the climax of a Disney movie. Once Shepherd found out she and her professional partner landed in the bottom two, the tears began to flow.
On Monday, the judges told Shepherd that she had a few issues with her footwork and that she needed to be sharper. "It was good, but I think what was lacking was your normal exuberance," judge Carrie Ann Inaba told her. She scored 21 points out of 30. Ultimately, it was her name that was called and it took her a few beats to compose herself.
"I just want to say thank you for letting me live a dream that I've always had, and I want to say I got the most amazing partner in Val Chmerkovskiy," she said tearfully. "And I want to say to every person out here that the thing that scares you the most, that makes you say, 'I don't know if I can do it; I'm scared,' run towards it, because it's so amazing on the other side."
Her partner said that she was an incredible person and that "she fought for me and I'm just really, really, really sorry I didn't do a good enough job for you."
Next week's competition will see the return of actress Melissa Gilbert following her hospitalization for a mild concussion after this week's performance.
